Noncompliance

Walking on the Ledge

Mandatory Training – 422.02

Johnson County Community College finally contacted me Feb. 2 about completing it’s mandatory sexual harassment & technology trainings for all JCCC employees.

I vowed not to do take the trainings until notified to do so — not because I don’t support them, but because I wanted to see how long it would take JCCC to contact me for being in noncompliance.

Well, it’s been two years — two years.

I know I’m not the only one who hasn’t complied. Some current and former student employees say they’ve never heard of the mandatory trainings. A few that knew of the trainings were told not to take it because they aren’t/weren’t permanent employees.

The campus community can feel relieved JCCC is finally addressing this gap — especially since JCCC cannot and should not choose which policies to enforce and which to ignore. We’ve been down that road before.

Mandatory Training – 422.02
Johnson County Community College
Series 400: Personnel
Section 422: Staff Development and Training

All new employees are required to complete new-staff orientation within 90 calendar days of their hire date. All new supervisors are required to participate in supervisor orientation within 90 calendar days of assuming supervisory responsibilities. All new employees are required to complete compliance training as indicated in job postings and /or descriptions within 90 calendar days of their hire date and every two years thereafter. Existing employees are required to complete compliance training within two years after the adoption of this policy and every two years thereafter. Failure to complete training required under this policy is just cause for progressive discipline.

As a prerequisite to serving on a campus hiring committee, an employee will be required to have completed hiring-committee orientation at least once within the fiscal year of the hiring committee assignment. Failure to complete the hiring-committee orientation as required by this policy will disqualify the individual from participating on the hiring committee assignment.

Required training will be scheduled in an attempt to accommodate the varied work schedules of faculty and staff. A detailed description of required training can be found at http://www.jccc.edu/home/depts/staffdev. [This is the actual link: Mandatory Training]

Date of Adoption: 3/27/08
Revised:

via Mandatory Training – 422.02.
