JCCC Announces Budget Cuts, Layoffs

In order to meet budgeting targets for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, 2011, and ends on June 30, 2012, the college has had to make various cuts in programs and services that are financed through the college’s general fund. These cuts in programs and services have resulted in the elimination of 11 jobs. Employees whose jobs have been eliminated have been notified. No further personnel cuts are anticipated at this time to meet budget expectations.

Services and operating expenses were also affected. For FY12, the college will see reductions in as well as changes with deliveries and the copy center. More information regarding the last two changes will be coming later this month.

The college followed a process called Prioritizing the Budget Strategically (PBS) to determine what would be cut. The process also called for us to look at our top priorities and think about what should have more support. Of the $6.2 million cut from the budget, a portion will be reallocated to support the college’s strategic priorities. Services and operating expenses that will be enhanced in the FY12 budget include replacement classroom technology, increased funding for instruction, support for the new Olathe Health Education Center that opens in the fall, and support for ABE/GED students.

Please know that monies spent in FY11, which ends June 30, 2011, could not have been saved to pay for any activities and services for FY12. The budget for each year stands alone.
