JCCC Employee Questions Rebranding

rebrandingRemember a few months back when JCCC announced a rebranding? Remember in the JCCC Trustee election that some candidates wanted to know why JCCC students couldn’t take on that task? Well, Julie Haas, associate vice president of Marketing Communications, gives a little insight to a campus employee about the rebranding process.

As with email threads, start at the bottom and scroll up to follow the conversation.

Subject: [jccc] Debranding [sic] Procedure

Julie Haas sent me an email explaining the debranding procedure and it is much more than what our graphic department could handle. The logo is a very small part of the procedure. She has chosen a great committee to work with her.

I think we will see that the money was well spent when all is done. I have apologized to her and her committee for my comments without knowing all that debranding [sic] included.

Julie:
Thank you for your email explaining the “rebranding” procedure. It is much more than what has been advertised. I apologize to you and your committee for my false remarks.

Hilda, I understand how you feel. I’ve attached some info that I hope will help make it clearer. We’ll be doing a Professional Development Days session on it, although I would imagine it would be tough for you to get away for that, particularly since you’ll be moving into a brand new building. I’d be happy to talk about it anytime.

Thank you for the correction on the cost! That makes me feel some better.

Maybe someone should explain what all ” rebranding” includes. Maybe lack of communication is a problem!

I am sure this Advertising agency is happy to hire our award winning graduates. That is a win win situation it looks like to me.

Since the State is not able to support our community college because of the economy, I just feel some of the ‘fluff’ needs to be curtailed until times get better. We don’t need to act like we’ve got it all, when we don’t. Let’s concentrate on education of our students that are paying increased tuition because of the economy. We will always be in demand in Johnson County for higher education.

Thanks again.

Hilda, you’re mistaken about the cost — the college’s rebranding effort will cost at most $120,000 — we hope less — most definitely not $220,000. And rebranding is more than just a logo. That’s only the last piece of this particular puzzle. Rebranding involves a great deal of research and communication, which our students — and they are talented — really can’t do in just their first or second year of college. It would be like insisting that our architecture students should design our buildings — they really need more experience before they can do that. The firm we’re working with hires our graduates, and they’d be the first to tell you they needed the professional experience they have on the job to be able to do this. I’d be happy to talk about the whole scope of the project if you’d like some accurate information.

Isn’t it a shame that our own award winning graphic design department couldn’t have the honor of redesigning our logo and the college saving $220,000?

Do we really understand what talent we have on this campus? That money would certainly help pay salaries that feed families in this community!

Just a thought in reading about our awards received by our students.
