Subject: JCCC Presidential Candidates – Request for Feedback

Dear Colleagues,

We have entered the last and most important phase of our search for Johnson County Community College’s next President.

A critical part of this process is receiving input from you about each of the candidates. To that end, below is a link to an on-line survey requesting your feedback on each of the presidential candidates who interviewed on campus over the last few weeks.

If you were unable to attend the live sessions, videos of each candidate’s staff, and faculty forums are available at: https://infoshare.jccc.edu/communities/presidentialsearch/default.aspx.  If prompted to log in to view the videos, log in using your full JCCC email address and OWA password.  Additionally, transcripts of the candidate’s forums are available by contacting Vince Miller at 913-469-8500 x 4711 or vmiller4@jccc.edu.

Your feedback is critically important to this process. I hope you will take the time to provide your feedback by following the link below:

Presidential Candidate Feedback Survey – http://vovici.com/l.dll/JGsB6E8617270ldDK9U19696J.htm

The videos and link to provide feedback will remain open through April 28th.

Thank you,

Judy Korb

Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Johnson County Community College

JCCC to raise mill levy & tuition

At their monthly meeting, the JCCC Board of Trustees voted to increase the mill levy and to increase the student activities fee per credit hour. Now some may argue that this fee is not tuition but it is assessed per credit hour, like tuition, and it must be paid at the same time one pays tuition. Call it whatever you want, but it’s a tuition increase.

According to trustees, the increase is to help  provide scholarships. Clearly the board thinks we’re a bunch of idiots because we all know that a primary focus area for the JCCC Foundation is providing scholarships.  It does that with Dollars for Scholars and Some Enchanted EveningIt also holds special events like Spice! with Wolfgang Puck.

BTW, JCCC wouldn’t need to increase the student activities fee to fund scholarships, if it didn’t keep raising tuition.

But you’re saying “What about all those scholarships that need to be funded?”

Perhaps the JCCC Foundation should  stop forcing the college to construct buildings simply to name after donors and do something more practical like seeking permission from the funders of unawarded scholarships to temporarily shift those funds to the scholarships students need most.

Let me tell you, I’ve gotten full scholarships from JCCC because I was the only one who applied. I’ve also applied for and gotten scholarships from JCCC because the people in charge of  those funds begged me to submit an application because they had money to give away — literally.

OK this was more of a rant than I’d anticipated. I just meant to offer some clarification on JCCC raising the mill levy and tuition…

JCCC Withholds Open Forum Videos

Why does JCCC have to do things the hard way?

In the search for a new president, the college has selected three candidates. As part of the process, each of the candidates will visit campus for several forums to meet with the board and make presentations to the staff and to the faculty. One forum, the All-Staff Forum, will be video recorded so that staff unable to attend can review the candidates’ presentations.

However, an April 12 posting on the Johnson County Community College electronic mail server, Infolist, informed staff that the videos will be embargoed until all the candidates have made their presentations.

That’s just idiotic.

Why wait and release the videos all at once? The candidates aren’t visiting en masse. They aren’t making their presentations simultaneously.

The candidates’ visits are scheduled over three weeks. JCCC should upload the video for each candidate immediately after his visit.

The kicker is that JCCC admits withholding the videos will cause problems for staff if they want to offer feedback.

But perhaps that’s JCCC’s strategy.

The April 12 Infolist post:

Opportunity to offer presidential candidate feedback runs from April 25 to 28

JCCC employees will have an opportunity to view the open forums and provide feedback for each of the three finalists in the JCCC presidential search.

Plan ahead! Due to the timing of the end of the interviews and the date the board of trustees has set to discuss the candidates, employees will have limited time to view the videos and enter feedback electronically. In order to maintain a fair process for all candidates, all videos need to be released at the same time for viewing.

The videos and link to provide feedback will be available from Thursday, April 25, to Sunday, April 28. This will allow time to tally the results and get comments to the board prior to their meeting on April 30.

JCCC board calls special meeting April 30

The Johnson County Community College board of trustees will gather at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Hugh Speer board room, GEB 137, for a special meeting. The purpose is to conduct an executive session during which the trustees will discuss the college’s search for a new president, which is a matter related to non-elected personnel. No action will be taken at that time.

The regular monthly meeting for the board of trustees is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Hugh Speer board room. It is anticipated that the recommendation for the new president will go before the board at that meeting.
