Programs seeks low-income youth to build computers, expand skill set, and earn money.
Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Kansas Community College, and Workforce Partnership team up again to sponsor a Computer Technician Basic Skills Camp for youth.
The free program targets low-income youth in Wyandotte, Leavenworth, and Johnson counties who meet eligibility requirements such as having earned a GED certificate or high school diploma. At the end of the program, students will have earned a certificate of completion along with a $500 stipend.
Last year, under the guidance of six instructors, 45 youth participants built 48 computers in 22 days. Those computers were then donated to 15 local non-profit organizations.
In addition to learning how to build and repair computers, participants learn leadership skills and how to work effectively as a team. They also walk away with enhanced soft skills.
This year’s program runs from July 9 – Aug. 3 on the JCCC and KCKCC campuses. Interested youth should contact organizers at 913.279.2600 or at Youth@WorkForcePartnership.com
